American Home Shield has a few different warranty plans, so you can choose the one that’s right for your home and your budget. Their ShieldSilver plan is the cheapest and covers 14 major systems, including heating and cooling, electrical systems, and plumbing. If you upgrade to ShieldGold, you’ll also get coverage for nine more common appliances you use every day, including most kitchen and laundry appliances.
And if you choose the ShieldPlatinum plan, you’ll get all of the above coverage plus coverage for roof leaks. ShieldPlatinum members also get a free HVAC tuneup, unlimited A/C refrigerant services, and even coverage for permit and code violations.
If you change your mind about your home warranty from American Home Shield, you can cancel your plan at any time. And if you cancel within the first 30 days of your coverage, you’ll get a full refund of your contract fees. However, any service or claims that you have made during these 30 days will be deducted from your refund.
After 30 days, you’ll receive a prorated refund based on how much time is left on your 12-month contract. An administrative fee will also be deducted from your refund, typically equal to one month’s payment. So, if you change your mind, it’s best to cancel within 30 days to get more of your money back.
